Space Wars: Interstellar Empires is a free-to-play, turn-based tactical space strategy MMO for Windows and macOS, in Early Access on Steam. Travel between sectors in real time, then fight hex-grid battles from 1v1 up to 20v20 players. You command one of more than 250 starships for one of five factions: Sol Imperial Worlds, Genari United Empire, Ma'alaketh Confederation, the Hive and the Free Peoples. Space Wars is developed and published by ToHeroes Game Studios. Browse every hull in the Shipyard, learn how combat works or follow the war in the news.
01 - GAMEPLAY
When enemies meet, the battle drops onto a hex grid. Every turn opens with an allocation round: spend your reactor's power on weapons, force fields and scanners. Whatever's left becomes movement and initiative.
How combat works →
02 - THE EMPIRES
No faction is inherently evil. Each fights for the survival of its species, with its own fleet and play style.
HUMANITY - DEFENSIVE DOCTRINE
The human race. Sturdy, well-balanced utilitarian warships built around plasma weaponry and strong force fields, driven by ion engines that outpace Genari fusion drives. Sol officers specialize in defensive skills.
03 - CAPTAIN & CREW
Destroy or rout enemies, capture regions and complete missions to earn experience, then spend it one skill point at a time. Unlock bigger warships and larger fleets, or commit to a specialization. Every faction has its own tree for the captain and for each officer.

05 - FROM THE BRIDGE
“The game is fairly easy to learn… I have an amazing amount of respect for what this solo/part-time dev team has accomplished. I see the potential greatness.”
06 - DISPATCHES
BATTLE-HARDENED - OFFENSIVE DOCTRINE
Behind in the technology race, the Genari fly more maneuverable ships with advanced armor, and marine pods that board enemy vessels to kill crew or capture the ship outright. Genari officers specialize in offensive skills.
ENIGMATIC - TECHNOLOGY DOCTRINE
Wielding technology centuries ahead of Sol and Genari, little is known about them beyond a minimal interest in the wider conflict. Long-range weaponry and dampening fields make their ships hard to hit. Officers specialize in technology.
SENTIENT - GROWTH DOCTRINE
Sentient creatures that live and die in space. Starting as spores, they grow by absorbing solar radiation and organic matter captured from enemy ships. They have no crew: they evolve through growth and the absorption of defeated races.
OUTLAWS - RAIDER DOCTRINE
Raiders operating from their own homeworld, answering to no empire and preying on all of them. The fifth power in the war.
